The Summer that keeps on giving!

An energetic opening from MD Jason Roper talking all things sunshine and football was followed up by our first speaker Darren Grimes of UHY Hacker Young, partner of MPG.

Darren had prepared a succinct and factual presentation explaining the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and what it means for the property sector.

Dating back to 1970 the prescriptive scheme was devised to reduce the risk of non payment of income tax by subcontractors. 

With monthly reports and payments due to the revenue this is something that demands attention.

Darren went on to explain what it took to gain and then maintain a Gross payment status.

This involves some very detailed conditions, an Annual review and a slew of financial and compliance tests. 

Any mistake could cost you your status as Darren explained as he walked us through a real life court appeal :

‘Ignorance of the law is not a reasonable excuse.’
